Overview: In the summers of 2011, 2013, and 2014, Drs. Kevin Oliver and Ruie Pritchard co-taught a course titled "integrating writing and technology" via study abroad in Guildford, England. The course was underwritten by the Triangle Community Foundation's Borchardt Fund that supports international travel for in-service teachers in Chatham, Durham, Orange, and Wake counties in North Carolina. This presentation will showcase many of the integrated writing and technology projects that teachers in this class completed within the context of James Moffett's writing progressions across varied audiences and topics (Oliver & Pritchard, 2014). The presentation will also highlight tools the instructors have used to prompt written reflections on culture during study abroad. Drs. Oliver and Pritchard received NC State's 2015 "Gertrude Cox Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology" for their work on this course.

Are You Interested in Our Summer 2016 or 2017 Programs? We are currently planning summer programs for July 2016 and 2017 that will involve travel to Helsinki, Finland, and Tallinn, Estonia. If you are a teacher in Chatham, Durham, Orange, or Wake County, please email kmoliver@ncsu.edu to express your interest. Video applications will be accepted starting this fall of 2015. Teachers will be expected to complete a collaborative online project between their classroom and a Scandinavian classroom during the spring semester to be eligible for participation. Some Saturday classes will also be held at NC State prior to departure. Most travel costs are covered (e.g., partial airfare, all lodging for two weeks, some meals, admission to attractions, and most city transit).
